Or spend some time in the outdoors with your children - where they can't watch television or play computer games! We're also seeing an increasing trend for people to take their grandchildren on self guided walking holidays.

We are often asked about the suitability of our walking holidays for families with children. In particular, we are often asked how old the children should be. Here are some considerations:

Age is not the most important thing. We've met children who can hike all day and love it. We've also met children who whinge and complain after half an hour. You know your children better than we do! We've even had some people carry a baby on their walking holiday, starting the child off right!

The next consideration is clothing and equipment. It is important that children are outfitted properly, just like adults. This is particularly important if you are considering a trip in an alpine area.

Self-guided INN-to-INN walking holidays are a lot of fun with children. Your family will be the only people in the group so you don't need to be concerned about your children keeping up with everyone else. You can stop and play, swim, enjoy the wildlife and even have an afternoon nap under a shady tree if you want to. You can choose your own starting date. We provide marked maps and easy-to-follow Walk Notes to help you find your way. In our experience, children love to be out front "finding the way". The notes also contain little snippets of interesting information about the environment they are walking though so they'll also learn something along the way.

And the best bit is, we move your luggage ahead to the next accommodation for you so you only need to carry day packs with your lunch, water, jacket, camera etc.

All INN-to-INN walking holidays are graded from easy to hard, so you can choose something that will fit your level of experience.

If you'd prefer to have a guide to accompany you then we have several guides who are experienced with children. We would suggest one of our guided INN-to-INN walking holidays or we can customise a holiday for you that is centre-based so you don't need to pack up and move on each day.
