Australia’s South West is a group guided trip. We use lots of superlatives in our walks descriptions, but those are never better deserved than for this itinerary. This area offers walkers a tremendous variety of terrain including forests, coast, granite hills and mountain ranges.
Heading south from Perth, our first stop is the tall karri forests of the Pemberton area. These giants tower overhead, as do the unique tingle trees (most people have never heard of these monsters) that you’ll see on the Tree Tops Walk. Several trees are still used as fire lookout towers, including Gloucester Tree. Will you be brave enough to climb to the fire lookout at the top?
The 1000km long Bibbulmun Track passes through this area en route to Albany. We’ve selected several of the best sections for this walk. Apart from the Pemberton forests, our favourites are the coastal stretches near Walpole, Denmark and Albany. Idyllic coves beg for deckchair and champagne, while rugged cliff lines need you to hang onto hats and crawl to the edges……and the Blowhole!
After the giddy thrills of the coast, our next walking is inland at the Porongorups. Tracks wind along granite ridges to the highest tors, excellent view points towards Albany and stunning Stirling Ranges. A steep ladder allows access to another hatholding place on the very top of Castle Rock.
The Stirling Ranges are a fitting finale with an ascent of Bluff Knoll a must for peak-baggers; it’s the highest mountain in the Stirlings. From the summit you can see the extent of the range in both directions.
We’ve chosen spring for this tour, to co-incide with beautiful wildflower displays. All colours of the rainbow are represented and we guarantee camera shutters will be working overtime. Naturally you should enjoy our beaut accommodations en route.
NOTE: This trip can easily be combined with our Cape to Cape group guided trip for an extended Western Australia walking vacation.
